METAHUMAN

Conversational and emotional AI

With our passion in pioneering technology-enabled learning and differentiated learning experiences, the Postgraduate Transformation (PGx) team has been exploring the potential of AI to develop learners’ conversational skills by providing personalised feedback, challenges, coaching, and opportunities to practice their skills.

An intelligent tutor and practice simulation, the Metahuman prototype, has been developed at Western Sydney University by the PGx team to immerse learners in real-life scenarios using conversational AI technology.

Dynamic and emotional conversations

The Metahuman incorporates AI to dynamically respond to learners via a natural conversation, creating an experience that simulates practical settings. Using the latest game engine technology to make it human, it incorporates AI-generated voices that express emotion, facial expressions that align with the Metahuman’s mood, and a realistic AI personality and scenario.

Efficient production

The Metahuman can deployed in different contexts and rapidly modified, via an AI prompt template to create different personalities and scenarios. The environment, lighting, character models and props can be efficiently updated to reflect the context of the situation, and to provide life-like or stylistic experiences.

Flexible delivery

The Metahuman experience can be delivered at the fidelity and scale required for the learners. We have developed a browser-based version that is accessible from any device providing access 24/7. For VR and other experiences, fidelity and resolution can be upscaled and reimagined for optimal use of the hardware available.

We co-design beautiful learning experiences that are technology rich, learner centred and develop the skills for tomorrow’s workforce.
